Feeling stuck in the "AI prompt loop?" Learn the four core pieces of effective prompt writing that will give you focused, high-value, results in seconds!
It's your weekly dose of clarity and insight on all things tech & business from Dream in Digital! Each week, I'm here to share my thoughts to help you make the most of today's technology and build a business that genuinely supports the life you want to live.
This Week’s Core Focus:
Getting AI to Work for You
These days, everyone now has access to AI tools like Google’s Gemini, Open AI’s ChatGPT and others, but now, the real question becomes, “are you able to use these tools to their full potential?” If you’re someone who seems to get caught in the endless “prompt loop” where you feel like you just keep going in circles with your AI tool, and can never get it to give you what you want, you’re not alone! AI prompt writing is an art and a skill, and I’m here to share with you some core tips to get AI working for you.
Follow the Four Core Pieces: Always structure your prompts using the four core pieces of effective prompt writing - Persona (who do you want the ai to be?), Task (what do you want it to do?), Context (what references/examples should it resemble?), and Format (how should the final result be communicated?). This allows you to guide the AI toward a focused, high-value result, from the outset.
Provide Proper References & Information: Prep your AI with an opening prompt that acts as a mini strategic brief. Include all necessary files, data, constraints, and (most importantly) references/examples upfront, so the AI can concentrate on producing a final, accurate output, instead of a generic draft. — Pro Tip: Grouping similar prompts/tasks in the same thread, and using custom Gems (Gemini) or GPTs (ChatGPT) allows you to skip the opening prompt prep step, so you can get right into the action as soon as you start prompting.
Treat the AI as a Conversation Partner: Use natural language, be specific, and make refinement a core part of the process. A little continuous, iterative conversation ensures the final product better aligns with your ideal results.
Bonus Tip: Provide Feedback! - Don't just accept a mediocre response, clearly tell the AI what needs improvement! Taking the extra few seconds to do this actively trains the entire AI tool to become a more effective and personalized business assistant for you.
Tech Tip of the Week:
Drafting Social Media Content with AI
The Problem: You want to start posting consistently on social media, but don’t know how to start, and you can’t think of that many good ideas.
The Solution: Give an AI tool, like Google’s Gemini, this prompt as an example:
You are an expert social media manager for a [describe your business] (Persona). Create a social media post for [platform name] (Task) that speaks to [audience] about their core problems, and how our [your product/service] solves their core needs (Context). Use [platform name & industry name] best practices in terms of length and post structure. (Format)
How This Helps: This specific, core piece-styled, AI prompt can generate a strong starting social media post for you in seconds! From there, you can spend a few minutes adding your own touches and edits, and before you know it, you’ll go from “what should I post about” to POSTED, in minutes!
