The 4 Pillars of a Solid Online Brand

January 6, 2026

Don’t keep building on rented space. Learn how you can build and OWN your digital presence!

It's your weekly dose of clarity and insight on all things tech & business from Dream in Digital! Each week, I'm here to share my thoughts to help you make the most of today's technology and build a business that genuinely supports the life you want to live.

This Week’s Core Focus:

The Online Brand Foundation

Whether you’re a business owner looking to increase your exposure online, or a professional looking to solidify your personal brand, having a strong digital presence is a MUST in today’s world. As a result, it’s common to see people rushing to go viral on social media, but without a foundation, that attention has nowhere to land. The New Year is the perfect time to take stock of your digital "real estate" and ensure you aren't building on "rented land." Here are the 4 core things I recommend you establish/improve to strengthen your online presence:

  1. Your Website (The Central Hub): Your website is one of the only pieces of digital property that you own. You control the narrative, own the traffic, and can showcase your brand in the most authentic way by bringing everything that you do under one cohesive roof.

  2. Email & SMS Marketing Platform: Before trying to sell to new clients/customers, prioritize the people who already know you. Being able to directly contact your leads and existing customers/connections for upsells or referrals is one of the highest ROI activities you can do.

  3. Social Media: Even if you aren’t the best at posting consistently, you still need a social media presence in today’s world. You don’t have to go crazy either! To start, just pick a platform or two that your ideal audience is on the most, and fill out all of the details for each social profile to establish credibility and brand recognition when someone looks you up.

  4. Google Business Profile/SEO Rankings: If you are a business, a Google Business Profile is a non-negotiable asset for search visibility. It confirms your brand's legitimacy and helps local clients find and trust you. Beyond that, for both businesses and professionals, having strong SEO rankings is important. Without getting into the details, having consistency across your digital assets and a strong library of content are great ways to start optimizing your business or personal brand for search engines.

Bonus Tip: Consistency is key! It’s important to almost always use the exact same profile photo and bio across each digital platform and asset. Establishing this visual cohesion creates trust, establishes credibility, and simply makes the person searching for you feel comfortable that they’ve found YOU online. With this said, if you don’t have a strong logo & branding guidelines (even for your personal brand), I would establish this first, as this branding is what your entire online presence will revolve around.

Tech Tip of the Week:

Reclaiming Your Traffic

The Problem: Although they may be easier to set up, when you use third-party tools like Linktree, Etsy, Substack, Etc., you end up giving away valuable traffic and data that you could be using to craft your own audiences and glean valuable insights from for your business.

The Solution: Here are ways that your website (that you own) can replace all 3 of these third-party tools and help you reclaim your valuable traffic:

Linktree - Instead of using Linktree or other “link-in-bio” tools to create a shortcut to your work, simply…

A. Create your own website and use that as the link you display in your social media bios.

B. On your website, you can create a separate landing page with all of the links you would include on your Linktree, except by doing this on your website, you own the traffic and have unlimited customization & features!

Etsy - Although Etsy has other benefits as a large marketplace itself, in terms of owning your traffic and sales/customer data, building your own e-commerce website where you can sell your products directly to customers is a great way to save on costs (aka Etsy fees) and own the entire customer experience.

Substack - Although Substack has other benefits as a blogging/social platform to give your work more exposure, when it comes to owning your data and leveraging your traffic to improve SEO, hosting all of your writing/blogging/newsletters on your own website is a major asset! Not only do you have full control over the design and content you publish on your site, you are also able to build up a valuable list of contacts that you can then work to monetize in the future.

How This Helps: By having a website in place of these third-party tools, you can begin driving your social media content and other external traffic sources to your owned website asset, which you can then build more and more over time into a valuable piece of “real estate” online.

Quote of the Week:

“Your brand is the single most important investment you can make in your business."

— Steve Forbes

A Question for You:

Looking at your current online presence, which of these four pillars feels the "shakiest" right now?

What is one small step you can take this week to reinforce it?

Until next week,
