The Power of Simple

What do you really want? When you focus on what really matters, things become simple…
It's your weekly dose of clarity and insight on all things tech & business from Dream in Digital! Each week, I'm here to share my thoughts to help you make the most of today's technology and build a business that genuinely supports the life you want to live.
This Week’s Core Focus:
The Power of Simple
Lately, I've been asking myself the honest question of, "What do I really want?" In both life and business, it’s easy to get lost in a tangled web of tasks and so-called “priorities” and the complexity can become crippling. When we take the time to focus on what truly matters though, things become simple.
Here’s the thing though: simple does NOT mean easy. We're complex beings in a complex world, so getting to “simple” is a journey of intention and discipline. It means constantly reminding yourself of what’s important and focusing on the few things that will provide the most return—in life as joy, and in business as profit.
The more we embrace simplicity, the more successful we become. This is because simplicity is the bridge between your dreams and your actions. It's the clarity that allows you to combine your vision with the discipline to show up and do the work.
Here are some ways you can get to “simple” for yourself:
1. Dream: Define Your “One Thing”
What’s the “One Thing” that you can focus on, in life and/or business, that will move the needle for you the most? (joy in life, profitability in business) Defining your core focus and writing it down helps you to continuously align your actions with your core purpose.
2. Do: Subtract & Act
Go through your task list(s) and remove or hide anything that doesn’t have to do with your “One Thing.” From there, pick the first task you see and complete it. If you have time, do another one…get the snowball rolling! This isn't about doing less; it's about doing the right things for the right goals.
3. Reflect: Create Space to Regroup & Focus
Block out 20 minutes on your calendar to do “nothing.” Use this time to realign on your tasks that will move the needle for your “One Thing” and prepare to do it all over again. This intentional pause is the discipline that’s needed to maintain your focus and ensure your actions are always in service of your vision.
4. Repeat: Build The Habit/System
Being able to do these 3 things consistently is the key to success. Sounds simple, but we already went over that paradox, so repeating each step every day helps you keep “simple” top of mind. This is how you build the system for success…
Remind yourself of your “One Thing.”
Take action!
Create space to reflect.
Do it all over again!
Tech Tip of the Week:
Build Your Success System
The Problem: As I mentioned above, it can be easy to get lost in a tangled web of tasks and so-called “priorities” that don’t really move the needle when it comes to what you really want to get out of life and/or business.
The Solution: I've spent a lot of time testing different workflows to combat this. The system I've found that works best for me—and might work for you, too—uses three simple apps to help me stay aligned with my core purpose, prioritize my tasks, and reflect on my progress. I’m not perfect at following this every day by any means—it’s hard to stay disciplined when life pulls you in other directions, but when I do, I find that it’s very helpful!
1. Dream: Keep Notes
This is where I write down my ideas, and spend time developing my WHY and the “One Thing” that I use as my compass to inspire action! By simply writing down my WHY & my “One Thing” on a Keep Note and pinning it to the top of the app, I can go in whenever I need to and be reminded of what I’m here to accomplish.
2. Do: Google Tasks
I use Google Tasks to manage all of my to-do’s. Every time I think of something that can be done to further my goals, I write it down as a task in the appropriate list I have set up (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Etc.). From here, I go in and star my top three tasks of the day. This is my “done for the day list” so that I can focus on only the 3 most essential things, and feel good about my day once they’re completed.
3. Reflect: Daylio (daylio.net)
This tiny but powerful journaling and habit tracking app is my life…literally! 😅 After I spend time outside resting my mind by doing “nothing” for a little while, I spend the rest of my time journaling about my day and evaluating my work on the top 3 tasks I starred that day in Google Tasks. Taking the time to reflect, and especially to journal, so I have to actually write down the thoughts in my head to clarify and communicate them, are both things that help me stay focused, and realign for the next day.
How This Helps: This three-app system creates a clear and direct way to stay intentional with your work. You start with a reminder of your core purpose, you focus on the essential tasks that move the needle, and you reflect on your progress. By intentionally using these simple tools, you build a powerful system of habits that turns your dreams into a sustainable reality.
