Top Small Business Trends to Watch in 2026

January 20, 2026

From AI automation to location-independent workflows—discover the 4 trends that will define business in 2026.

It's your weekly dose of clarity and insight on all things tech & business from Dream in Digital! Each week, I'm here to share my thoughts to help you make the most of today's technology and build a business that genuinely supports the life you want to live.

This Week’s Core Focus:

Top Small Business Trends for 2026

With the New Year already almost one month in, I’m taking a look at some of the top trends that could shape your business in 2026. The goal of this newsletter edition is to inform you of the things happening in the small business world, and to give you some ideas for how you can leverage these opportunities for your business. With that being said, here are some of the key things I’m watching as we sink in to 2026:

  1. Technology & Automation: Don’t be afraid of new tech and automating parts of your business. Small business owners can often forget that your time is your most valuable asset. There will always be a million things to do, but if you can leverage AI & automation to “buy” back valuable hours of your day, you’ll be able to move your business forward, faster than you ever have before… or just have time to take a breath, because that’s important too! 🌞

  2. Customer & Marketing: With AI & automation taking center stage behind the scenes, it will be even more important for businesses to remain authentic through their marketing and customer interactions. Personalization and consistency are key, along with creating community and a sense of belonging for your audience and customers alike. Finish it off with a focus on engagement over volume, and always adding value through content creation, and your business will never go out of style. 😎

  3. Operations & Workforce: Cloud-based work environments are a necessity in 2026. Even if you own a physical location, having your business operate online/in the cloud (not just on a computer) is a must to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of work and the flexibility that’s needed to drive your business forward. This shouldn’t be a negative thing either! Being able to run your business from anywhere, with the help of practically anyone, opens doors for your company and your lifestyle that you may have never thought possible! 🙌

  4. Strategy & Finance: In a fast changing world, it can be easy to lose sight of what’s important. Leveraging data and analytics are the keys to seeing the true health of your business, and making the quick adjustments that are needed for you to thrive in today’s business environment. Keep things lean, focus on profits, and grow strategically from there — step-by-step! 📈

Note: There is definitely a LOT here to digest, but don’t worry! I will be making it a point to break all of these trends down one-by-one in future editions of this newsletter, so stay tuned! Plus, all of these things are what Dream in Digital is built to help you with! We’re always here for you if you have any questions, or you prefer to have an expert take things over for your business. Let’s get in touch! ➡️

Tech Tip of the Week:

Creating Your Cloud-Based Business

The Problem: If you’re still using paper-based systems to operate your business, 2026 is the perfect time to start bringing these systems into the digital world. Once you’ve bridged the gap between the physical and digital worlds, the next step is to take your digital business and turn it into a cloud-based business. Here’s what I mean…

Digital-only isn't enough anymore. I see so many businesses that are "digital," but they aren't cloud-based. When you don't work in the cloud, files get lost in random folders on your desktop, you’re stuck with one specific device (God forbid it gets lost, stolen, or breaks!), and collaboration becomes a nightmare of emailing versions back and forth. It’s 2026... ENOUGH!!

The Solution: First, digitize your physical work to make it easier to understand, share, and track without the physical clutter locking you down. Second, move those files into a unified cloud environment like Google Drive.

How This Helps: This creates a "borderless" business where anyone on your team can tap into the right information from anywhere, freeing you from your hardware and giving you the mobility to live life on your own terms.

I know that transitions like this are never as easy as they sound, but I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty either. Send me a message if you need help getting started!

Quote of the Week:

“Your business should be a tool for your freedom, not something that ties you down."

A Question for You:

* We have two this week! *

1. If you could snap your fingers and have one part of your business become almost completely "hands-off" by the end of next quarter, what would it be?

2. Which of these trends interests you the most this year? Leave a comment about it below and let’s get the conversation going! :)

Until next week,
